Malicious Perplexity Chrome Extension Intercepted Searches and Address Bar Input

Microsoft discovered a malicious Chrome extension masquerading as the AI search engine Perplexity, which secretly logged users' search queries. The extension also intercepted and sent every character typed into the address bar to a server controlled by the attacker, before redirecting users to actual search results. After Microsoft reported the issue, Google removed the extension from the store. The extension was able to capture and transmit user input without their knowledge.
