Your Critical Vulnerabilities Might Not Be Your Biggest Risk

Security teams have become skilled at identifying vulnerabilities, but now they need to focus on determining which ones actually pose a risk to their systems. A vulnerability's severity does not necessarily determine its potential impact, as other defenses such as segmentation and identity controls can prevent exploitation. Even critical vulnerabilities may not be the biggest risk if they are adequately protected by other security measures. The presence of a critical vulnerability on a scanner report does not automatically mean it is a significant threat. The key is to assess which vulnerabilities can actually be used by attackers to compromise the system. This requires evaluating the vulnerability in the context of the overall security posture.
