Thermo Fisher Patches Flaw That Could Make DNA File Tampering Nearly Undetectable

Thermo Fisher Scientific has fixed a vulnerability in certain human identification software products that could have enabled tampering with DNA data files before they are analyzed. The flaw could allow alterations to specific file types to go largely unnoticed if laboratory controls are bypassed. The issue is identified by Thermo Fisher as CVE-2026-17583 and was disclosed in a security bulletin released on July 31.
