The Patch Gap: Why Defenders Need to Think in Chains, Not Checklists

Defenders should shift their approach from solely relying on CVSS scores to guide patching decisions. Instead, they should focus on identifying and patching vulnerabilities that could be used to break the chain of attack and gain access to critical assets. This approach, known as choke-point patching, prioritizes patching based on the potential impact on critical systems. By doing so, defenders can more effectively prevent attacks from reaching sensitive areas. This new mindset is necessary to improve defenses against evolving threats.
