OpenAI Disrupts Poipet Scam Network Using ChatGPT Across Multiple Fraud Schemes

OpenAI has disrupted a scam operation based in Cambodia that utilized its ChatGPT chatbot for various fraudulent activities. The scams included investment, romance, and gambling schemes, as well as impersonating law enforcement. The operation was found to be using a network of coordinated ChatGPT accounts, which have since been banned by OpenAI. These accounts are believed to have originated from Southeast Asia and were operating out of the city of Poipet. The region of Poipet is known for its extensive involvement in such activities. OpenAI's actions targeted the network of accounts to prevent further fraudulent use of its chatbot.
