CVE-2016-0034

CVE-2016-0034 is a high-severity (CVSS 8.8) vulnerability in Microsoft Silverlight. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on May 25, 2022, which means exploitation in the wild has been confirmed; US federal agencies had to remediate it by June 15, 2022. CISA also lists it as known to be used in ransomware campaigns, so it should be prioritised accordingly. Microsoft has 390 vulnerabilities in the KEV catalog, 117 of them linked to ransomware.

Microsoft Silverlight 5 before 5.1.41212.0 mishandles negative offsets during decoding, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (object-header corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Silverlight Runtime Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
